What Can 'Ya Do?

Not all book reviews are all rainbows and kittens but the prospective readers should get all the opinions out there. So, in the interests of full disclosure here is the first review for The Call.

Ouch.

HOWEVER, I felt it was a fair review in that it didn't get personal or ugly; it was quite professional. I got the vibe that she was disappointed, in fact -- which is good. Shows that she entered the book with high expectations. And she clearly shows WHY they weren't met.

You should have seen me staring open-mouthed at a review for a urban fantasy author's debut -- one of those authors who's gotten a lot of buzz here in blogworld. Harsh doesn't even begin to describe that one.

If everyone loved your work, you wouldn't be honest somewhere. Remember that; I've found it to be true time and again.

And hugs from me and the band. Don't put on TOO long a face or Trevor will try to come up with ways to fix it. *wink*

There were some nice points in there too. I will sulk a little, then get out my new DVD set and some coffee and cheer up.

I was meant to have 'Wolf to Man' ready to send today and a final check over 'Nameless God' but the time gremlins seem to have stolen my day...

Reading down a little further 26/50 isn;t doing too bad. I wonder if we get spoiled by the praise-inflation of all these fluff-review website c.f. a cash paying reader who can say whatever the feel ;)

Not entirely kind reviews can hurt a little. But she wasn't cruel at least.

I'm looking forward to Mrs. Giggles eviscerating an ARC I sent to her of my next e-book.

But I'm a masochist. ;)

I thought the review was honest, if a little owwie.

Write on, take what you need from reviews and leave the rest. :)
