.
martyr to mortals--
dragon this shadow
tail through life
my hoard of days
shallow as gold
deep as luster
I scale
even the sky
I am the dark heart
that humans hide
the prize of myth
a piece of sky
the knights approach--
weaned on the virtue
of murder
they don't ask why

oooh, cool poem. I loved the imagery.
"the knights approach--weaned on the virtue of murder
they don't ask why"
Excellent.
Awesome poem, Emily. I can see dragons thinking and feeling this.
i like the play on the multiple meanings of scale. as in climb and in dragon skin? maybe i'm seeing things that aren't there tho. which would be so typical of me. :)
my poem is about the source of inspiration again. yeah, i do seem to have a thing for that theme.
I like this ... makes me feel bad for the Dragons
I love this: "this shadow
tail through life
my hoard of days"
I'm a Dragon in the Chinese calendar, so I feel a strong kinship to them. Really sparse poem, which makes the voice of the dragon narrator so real.

Ann is right, this gives me a chill.
This is a really strong one, Emily. Wow.
Very nice, it has an excellent pace that skims along the tongue! I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing!
