.
Sullen and still
you walked upon me
which I allowed,
smiling with secret knowledge.
But the time came, boy
when I put aside my garden
and toppled your tower,
all your hard work,
right over and took half.
This earth, like me,
is not more good,
just more patient.

I love the power in these last lines. My poetry Monday will be up later on today.
Yes, I love the last stanza. Tying the narrator to the spirit of the earth, and the 'boy' to the footprint of men upon the planet is really powerful.
I toppled your tower. Very powerful poem.
may sullen boys take heed...the patience of the earth is verrrry long.
powerful images.
Loved the image of a less than patient earth. Carol
I agree with Christine, I thought those last lines were powerful! Great poem and Happy Monday!
This is lovely.
ooooooh - i love it! wickedly droll and vengeful and the levels of meaning just made me jump up and down and clap in glee. no really - they did. i could read this poem over and over and over again - it's layered so richly in symbolism. xxx rhi
