New Review: Lover of Ghosts

"Sincerely this was more the story of Xeras and Drinia, than Xeras and Carly, but it was nice, and Drinia is indeed a wonderful character."

Don't Mess With Equines

There is a scene in Lover of Ghosts where Xeras is kind of, well, rescued by a pony. I recently came across these photos again--the original inspiration for that scene.

Lover of Ghosts released

Ballot's Keep 2: Lover of Ghosts, is now available in ebook format.

Three armies are converging on the isolated town of Ballot’s Keep, and a harsh, icy winter is just around the corner. Xeras and his infant dragon are heading out of town, but not to escape. It was his meddling that caused all this trouble for his lover, Carly, and for the town. And it’s his job to set it right. Or, as his companion ghost likes to remind him, get killed trying.

Carly, the duke of Ballot’s Keep, would like nothing better than to protect his troubled, magic-tainted lover. But what dragon magic has wrought, dragon magic must repair—and Xeras insists on facing the consequences of his actions. Alone.

The fate of thousands of innocent people rides on Xeras’s talent for causing trouble—only this time, in turning their enemies against each other. But his need for secrecy could be too much of a betrayal for Carly to forgive…

Lover of Ghosts is offically coming soon, with a scheduled release date of September 7th.

For love’s sake, he started a war. For peace, he could lose it all.

Another Update

Half way through the Lover of Ghosts edits, and I have the proofs for the audiobook of Journey's End.  Busy, busy!  I am thinking that i will stick to my working title for the third part of the Ballot's Keep trilogy even thought nobody likes it.  I like the aliteration of 'Brother of Brume'.

Lover of Ghosts edits are now underway.  I am also working on the stand-alone MM sci fi story "Freelance", which is about half-finished.

Lover of Ghosts is go!

It looks like Lover of Ghosts has been (provisionally) accepted by Samhain--I am awaiting the contract. Some of you might be a little exasperated to know I decided I need one more book to completely finish the story. Part three is tentatively titled "Brother of Brume". It should be the final part, honest. HEA and all (maybe).

Edited to add: Thanks to the beauty and genius of the internet the contract has arrived, been signed, and sent on its way back to the PTB. No muss, no fuss.

*Thud*

I have officially finished the first draft of Lover of Ghosts. And not before time.

Update

So, I am seriously, finally, on the last chapter of the Lover of Ghosts. As much of the earlier chapters are already self-edited into good shape the finish line is not far away. It is looking like it will be about 60,000 words, a similar length tot he first part, Father of Dragons.

Blue Murder: the novella (formerly a short story in Creatures of the Night) has been submitted and I have seen the cover design, which is awesome. I hope to be able to share it will y'all soon.

In the meantime, in insight into the advantages of using a keyboard. Sometimes even I don't understand the notes I leave myself. I finally remembered what this says, but can you guess?

Dreams

Some writers get ideas from dreams, I am not usually one of them. The dream I had last night is one example of way. I dreamed I was on a large ferry that somehow ran broke down in a place where rescuers could not find it. I was with a small group of people who decided that the answer was to build a kind of jetty out from the boat, and for some reason we were building it out of books. Eventually we were all rescued and I was greeted by the characters from the TV show Bones (which I don't even like very much). I woke up feeling confused, not inspired.

Oh well. The revised version of Blue Murder has been finished and submitted. Lover of Ghosts is next. I am on the final chapter.

Lover of Ghosts

I am now about one third of the way through writing this book, and finally making some good progress. Of course Xeras is mad as a wet hen, as usual. But it is all part of his charm.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

I am making some progress on Lover of Ghosts at last--1,500 words over the last few days.

Drinia, the egg thief

A quick sketch for those of you waiting for me to finish 'Lover fo Ghosts' the sequel to 'Father of Dragons'. As you can see, Drinia remains something of a vexation for Xeras.
